Sorrento, set above the Bay of Naples, is a charming, relaxed resort which has long been a favourite of the rich and famous. Fashionable shops line the main street, Corso Italia, whilst countless smaller shops and boutiques are to be found in the maze of streets and alleyways which make up Sorrento’s ‘old town’. Its in the old town where you will also find an abundance of pavement cafes where you can relax and enjoy the views, together with a wide choice of restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias.
The Amalfi Coast and its tiny islands is one of the most visually stunning regions in the whole of Europe. Twisting roads cling to the cliffs and pass through some beautiful southern Italian villages. The town of Amalfi itself, which is dominated by its 9th century Cathedral, used to be a maritime republic which rivaled Venice and Genova. Today, in the narrow cobbled streets you will find plenty of pavement cafes, shops and restaurants.

Day 1 Fly to Italy
Our holiday begins with the flight to Naples from your chosen UK airport. On arrival it’s just a short transfer to our hotel in Sorrento.
Day 2 – 7
At leisure in Sorrento. During your stay, to help you see and discover this beautiful region of Italy, there is a programme of fascinating optional excursion which you can book locally.
Enjoy an excursion along what has so many times been described as ‘the most beautiful coastline in the world’. Without doubt, on the Amalfi Coast you will enjoy some of the most breathtaking scenery you will ever see as we travel along the twisting road, passing whitewashed hamlets and terraced lemon groves. We’ll stop above Positano for a wonderful panorama of this gem of a village, which seems to cascade down the hillside to the sea. Then we’ll continue on to Amalfi itself, which is characterized by small fishermen’s cottages and tightly packed colourwashed villas, and is overlooked by St. Andrew’s Cathedral with its incredible mosaic facade.
This afternoon we drive up to Ravello, a delightful mountain top village set high above the coast. From the terrace in the Villa Rufolo – which was the setting for Wagner’s ‘Parsifal’ – there are magnificent views over the Mediterranean Sea.
Explore Pompeii, where we have a walking tour of the excavations, accompanied by a local guide. Seemingly frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, the excavated city is a fascinating collection of ruins and reconstructed buildings which give a unique insight into the daily life of Romans two thousand years ago. During the tour we will see the well preserved remains of temples, villas and the forum, streets worn away by the wheels of chariots, wine shops and even bakeries with loaves of bread still in the ovens.
Isle of Capri
Why not take an excursion to the Isle of Capri? A fabulous day is in store as we cruise across the Bay of Salerno to one of the most beautiful islands in the world. This magical island has been home to Emperors, artists and poets over the centuries and is today, perhaps, Italy’s most exclusive holiday destination. On arrival in Marina Grande we take the funicular railway, which climbs through colourful gardens and past pretty, pastel coloured villas, up to Capri village. Here we will have a short walk through the meandering streets to the Augustus Gardens, which overlook Gracie Fields’ villa ‘The Song of the Sea’. This afternoon is at leisure, so why not enjoy a cappuccino in one of the stylish pavement cafes in the ‘Piazza’ whilst you plan what to do; a visit to Anacapri or perhaps the Blue Grotto or, for the less energetic, there are some fabulous shops and boutiques to browse in.
Day 8 Fly to the UK
It’s ‘Arriverderci Italia’ today when we return to Naples airport for our flight back to the UK. If your flight is in the morning or over the lunchtime period, we will take you to the airport after breakfast. If your flight is in the late afternoon or evening, there will be time at leisure before leaving for the airport
This holiday includes 7 nights’ accommodation on a half board basis. You’ll stay at the 4 star Hotel Albatros in charming Piano di Sorrento, one of the four villages that make up the resort of Sorrento. The hotel is now owned by the Giglio family, who also own several other hotels in Sorrento. The Hotel Albatros is in the resort centre, which is home to narrow streets, townhouses, bars and cafes. The hotel has a bar, restaurant, sun terrace, lounge and pool. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities, TV, air conditioning and telephone. On certain dates or with high demand we may also use other 4 star hotels in the Giglio group.
